Review by Norma: A Monster Calls

A Monster CallsA Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Read:  November 10 – 11, 2016

I am rating this 5 stars because I do believe that this book is well worth that rating but to be truthfully honest it is a novel that was really hard to rate! I didn’t absolutely love this novel and I didn’t hate it either. There is an extremely important message in this book which is well worth the 5* rating.

I went into reading this book totally blind, I didn’t even read the synopsis on this one until I was finished which made this book even more special. A MONSTER CALLS is a great title for this novel by PATRICK NESS and isn’t your typical “monster/scary” story it is much more than that. It’s an engrossing novel about love, truth, hope, anger and loss. I had a love/hate relationship with this one.

The story was told in the voice of 13 year old Conor who starts to dream about visits from a monster. The monster plays a very important part in how this story is told and perceived.

Thank you to my sister for allowing me to read your copy before you did! Now it is your turn!

It was a fast-paced, thought-provoking, extremely quick, and emotional read. I am looking forward to seeing this movie.
