Norma is starting Mrs. Bird with our Traveling Friends.  Lindsay and I will be joining in soon.

Brenda and Lindsay are reading My Real Name is Hanna with our Traveling Sisters.

I have just started When the Lights Go Out and enjoying it so far.  The discussion is going on in the Traveling Sisters group.  I can’t wait to jump into the discussion.  Lindsay will be joining in soon.  Norma has already finished this one.

What we have finished:

The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware

Lindsay finished this one with our Traveling Freinds and Norma and I joined in on the discussion.  This was such a fun one to read in a group. It was interesting to see the different thoughts everyone had on this one.

What we thought:

Overall the Friends really enjoyed this one and thought it was a fun, entertaining and fast-paced read.  When Norma and I read this one it left our heads spinning trying to keep track of the characters and how they were connected.  One friend pointed out to me she thought maybe one of the reasons it worked better for her was because she read it in one sitting and that helped her keep track of everyone.   It did seem like the friends and sisters who read this one in one or two sittings enjoyed it more than us.

4 out 5 chance it will give you a book hangover from reading it all night

4 out 5 for a fast-paced read to hold your attention

Good chance you will either love this one or not at all!!!

Who we recommend to:

We recommend to readers who like a slower paced mystery, with some family and drama that needs you to pay attention and for anyone who likes a good atmospheric and gothic read.

The Other Woman by Sandie Jones

The Other Woman is a fun and entertaining domestic suspense thriller with some very unlikable characters.

What we thought:

We enjoyed the different take here with who the other woman is.  We liked the very unlikable characters who left us with a lot to discuss.  We had differing thoughts on what we thought of the ending and it separated us with how we felt about this story.

3 out of 5 for a fun, and entertaining read

4 out 5 for a different take on the other woman

Who we recommend to:

I recommend this one to readers looking for an entertaining and fun read with some very unlikable character and an ending that we will challenge your detective skills. There is some need to spend some disbelieve with some of the actions of these characters.

Not Her Daughter by Rea Frey

Not Her Daughter explores the lengths a woman goes to save a child from her mother.

What we thought:

We had some very different thoughts on this one.  Some of us really enjoyed this one and then some who had mixed feelings and some of us this story did not work for us.

Norma’s Stats: 
Cover: Eye-catching and an extremely fitting representation to the storyline.
Title: Drew us all in instantly & perfectly ties into the plot.
Writing/Prose: readable, straightforward
Ending: Maybe unrealistic but I felt it fit the story well and ended just the way I wanted it to.
Overall: A very good read for me but there were some aspects to this story in the way that a character was portrayed that didn’t sit well with me and for some of us TS and therefore interfered a little bit with our overall enjoyment towards this novel. And I found some areas much more engrossing than others.

Who we recommend this one to:

Would recommend to thriller fans looking for a unique approach to your usual kidnapping story.  However, it will require you to suspend disbelief as there is a lot of events and stereotypes to this story that really seemed implausible.

The Lightkeeper’s Daughters by Jean E. Pendziwol

Norma read this one with our Traveling Friends and everyone just loved this story.  It goes on our list as a huggable book that has become a favorite for us.

 

Norma’s Stats:
Cover:  Love that beautiful and eye-catching cover!
Title:  Fits the story well and had me totally intrigued.
Writing/Prose: Beautifully written, eloquent and spellbinding.
Plot:  Interesting, held my attention and loved everything about it.
Ending: Took me a little by surprise and loved how all the storylines came together. Moving, memorable and satisfying.
Overall: An outstanding read! Would highly recommend!
