Penny For Our Thoughts

Traveling Sisters Book Reviews. Join us on our adventures through the books we read

First Line Friday is hosted by Hoarding Books. Where we share the first line or lines of a book we are currently reading or going to start soon.

Our First Line Friday is for an upcoming Traveling Friends Group read that we all are pretty excited to start reading.

Vox by Christina Dalcher

If anyone told me I could bring down the president, and the Pure Movement, and that incompetent little shit Morgan LeBron in a week’s time, I wouldn’t believe them.

Goodreads Summary

Set in an America where half the population has been silenced, VOX is the harrowing, unforgettable story of what one woman will do to protect herself and her daughter.

On the day the government decrees that women are no longer allowed more than 100 words daily, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial—this can’t happen here. Not in America. Not to her.

This is just the beginning.

Soon women can no longer hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught to read or write. Females no longer have a voice. Before, the average person spoke sixteen thousand words a day, but now women only have one hundred to make themselves heard.

But this is not the end.

For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will reclaim her voice.

I have this book and I do want to read it.
    My first line:
“Jonathan Blackwell inhaled a deep breath in an attempt to calm the herd of agitated cattle mustering inside his chest. It didn’t help.”

Taken from The Rancher’s Twins by Carol Ross.

I can’t wait to read this!!!

My latest book is book 4 in the Spud series. It starts with: “I was woken by devious whispering from outside my bedroom door. My parents were definitely up to no good because the only time they whisper in the passage is when I’m sick or if they think I’m suicidal.”

  4. Read it, but as with The Handmaild’s Tale, I had a bit of trouble with the time element. Hope you enjoy it.
