I always have these random bookish questions that I’m curious about so I ask our Traveling Sisters a weekly (sometimes more) book related question. We thought it would be fun and interesting to take some of those questions to our blog and see what you all think or do.
So this next question that we asked of the Traveling Sisters comes courtesy of Lindsay. She has always wondered where and what we book lovers like to have close by us while we are reading and where that special comfy place to curl up with a good book is. I hope that you will also join in on the discussion with us.
Norma’s random book question:
Where do you spend your time reading? Do you have a special spot? Is there anything in particular that you like to have with you when you read?
Norma’s Answer
I spend most of my time reading during my lunch break at work and in the evening’s when everyone else is in bed. I don’t really have a special spot but my son just gave us a nice leather reclinable loveseat that is equipped with drink cups as well as USB ports which I am absolutely loving. It is so comfortable and I can have my iPad plugged in while I’m reading. Very handy! I also have a Diet Pepsi with me wherever I go (I’m hooked) and always have to have one close by.
Brenda’s Answer
My most loved reading spot is in “my chair” in my living room. My family leaves my chair for me and no one sits in it but me. It’s so cute they do that. My favorite time to curl up in it is first thing in the morning with my coffee. I have mood cups with little motivation saying on it and I choose which one depending on my mood. In the evening my favorite spot is in bed with a nice glass of white wine. If it gets too late reading in bed usually leads to sleep reading. Then in the morning when I look at discussion threads I wonder why I missed things. lol .
Lindsay’s Answer
I love discovering everyone’s most loved reading spots! Thanks for using my question Norma!! 💕 📚
Mine is the corner of my sectional sofa in my living room. (The cushion actually has a permanent imprint of my butt 🤣). I always have a blanket on me, even in the heat of summer – crazy, I know! More of a comfort thing than a source of warmth. Along with my 75 pound Golden Retriever lap dog, I usually have a coffee or tea to accompany me. I do most of my reading in the evenings once the littles are sleeping, and if I’m lucky enough to have them napping at the same time, I get some quality reading time in the afternoon! 😍
Kristin’s Answer
I love this question, and all the responses! I feel like I just got to know you all a little better through your answers ☺️
Norma: I want that chair! It’s like a reclining, cup holding, USB supporting heaven ❤️
As some of you have mentioned, I mainly read in bed at night while everyone else is asleep and all is quiet.
I too have had my kindle fall flat on my sleeping, unsuspecting face—as well as large hardcover books with book lights clipped to them 🤯
I do try to get in some daytime reading when I can, curled up on my couch with a couch cushion supporting my book. If it’s raining or snowing, that’s a drop-everything-and-reading-now kinda day. Oh, and a hot drink of some sort always tags along ❤️☺️
Now to the best part. Your answers. Please join in our discussion and let us know your answer. We would love to hear from you!

I will read anytime, anywhere (except in a moving vehicle as that causes me to have motion sickness). I have several books going at once and, interestingly, they are read in different places. I bring a book with me to work and read during my lunch break. My “work” book is always non-fiction, usually something spiritual. At home I have a non-fiction book, usually a history or biography, that I read while sitting on the couch in the living room. In nice weather I often take a book outside and sit at the bistro set on my front porch. My favorite, though, is reading in bed. Every night, I read for a while before falling asleep. My “in bed” reading is always fiction. I LOVE to be snug in bed and lose myself in a really good novel.
I also take a book with me when I go anywhere, especially places like doctor’s or dentist’s offices. Waiting rooms tend to be good places to read unless they have a TV blaring. I find that very distracting.
There is nothing specific that I must have with me, though I do love it when one or both of my cats curl up nearby.
I learned a trick from one of my cousins. He leaves a different book in every room of his house and reads when he’s in that room. I’ll admit I don’t have one for every room, but it is what got me started on reading different books in different places.

Eileen if I were able to juggle more than one book at a time I would absolutely love to read the way that you do with having a different genre to read in different places. I think that is a splendid idea! Thanks so much for, sharing!

My favorite spot for reading is in bed or on the couch. If I am on the couch, I have this blue blanket with snowmen all over it covering me. In bed, I just curl up on a couple of pillows and read until my eyes start to close.
I also will take my Kindle with me if I go on an appointment. I cannot read in the car. I get carsick and I get an awful headache.

I’m envisioning you covered with the blue blanket with snowmen all over it – sounds pretty comfy and wonderful to me! 🙂

It is :). I do fight with my youngest for the blanket. She loves it too…lol.

I am the same – can’t read in the car which is upsetting. Love your blue snowman blanket ! Sounds cozy!!!! ⛄️

It is :). I used to get mad about not being able to read in the car but have resigned myself to it.

I read on my phone most times, so anywhere would be okay… No specific place… I read sitting, standing, talking, walking… Pretty much everywhere except the washroom… 🤣🤣😂😂

Oh my goodness Shalini your comment made me laugh because I have been known to hide in the washroom if I cannot put a book down! Don’t tell anybody though! Hehehehe

That’s interesting that you read on your phone most often. How convenient!!! 😊

I like that I can make the background of the book black while reading. I find it most soothing. And I feel the book goes fast when I do that

Great question! I read in the evening when my son has gone to bed. I like the quiet so I can really get immersed in the story!

I totally love your answer and I would say that I absolutely love the quiet too after everyone is in bed. For me that is the best time to read! No interruptions and your right it is so much easier to get totally immersed in the story. 🙂

Yes! I’ve tried snatching reading time at work, at the shops arc and it’s just not for me!

During the day, in my armchair with my feet up on footstool, and usually a labrador – or two – with their chins on my knee. If I’m lunching alone, I read at the breakfast bar whilst eating, and every night before sleep in bed for a chapter (or three)! My kindle goes everywhere with me, even from room to room at home . . .

When reading your comment my first thought was wow you have some pretty special places to read! I also read a few chapters in bed until my hubby falls asleep and then I move out into the living room and read a few more chapters. Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂

So funny Grace! My kindle goes from room to room with me too! Makes me feel good just knowing it’s there, ready and available. 😆

Norma, that reclinable loveseat sounds amazing!! I want one with all of those features!!
Kristan, my nose has narrowly missed a falling Kindle or hardcover too. 🤦🏽♀️
I like reading in my car while snacking. And I have a book room that I enjoy reading in. Problem is, when I finally have time to sit down and read I start falling asleep. 😔

I was pretty tickled pink when my son gave it to us and a little overly excited about all those features. hehehe
Brenda is the same way she starts falling asleep as well. I don’t have that problem since I’m an insomniac but my eyes do get quite tired though around midnight and usually can’t read anymore.
Oh I would love to have a book room as that sounds like the ultimate! 🙂

I usually read either in the recliner in the living room or the recliner in the downstairs family room. I actually like to read outside by the pool or on the patio in the evening when there is a bit of a breeze. I listen to books wherever; in the car, when cooking/baking, outside while working etc. So, pretty much anywhere.

Oh poolside reading is the absolute best, Carla and I’m a little bit envious. LOL
I also like that you listen to book wherever….I have so tried listening but I haven’t been able to fully embrace it though. I get the tone all wrong and I am easily distracted.

I do sometimes have to rewind and listen again because my mind wandered a bit, but I am getting better.

Hello everyone, great question! I read whenever I can, wherever I can but at home I have three special spots. The first is in a large spinning chair in my front room where I have a beautiful view, the second is in my spare room (which my other half has kindly let me convert to a library!) and the third is in bed just before I go to sleep. I love to have a cup of tea alongside me when I’m reading although sometimes I get so into my book I forget about the tea and it goes cold! 😂

Hi Beth! Thanks so much for sharing your special reading spots with us! I think that is why I don’t drink hot beverages they get cold right away on me too because I forget. LOL

Cool question, thinking of my reading area makes me smile because its my favourite time of day. My place is just like Lindsay’s. I snuggle up with my blanket and a coffee with my Border collie beside me, after I drop off my eldest at school. While my youngest tries her best to keep busy as she knows how important the 2 cups of coffee book time is to me. Its a short valuable time that I hold dearly. Sometimes before bed not very often as my husband pulls me to watch netflix with him (his idea of our time together).

Hi there, Tiffany!!! Well your comment made me smile and I love how your youngest tries her best to keep herself busy to let you have your Mommy book time. She is absolutely precious….well both your kids are but that is pretty special! I like to read before bed as well but someone watches Youtube or Netflix as well in bed and distracts me from my reading time. LOL Usually, I can read when he is watching a Western but any other movie or Youtube clips I get pulled into watching as well.

Tiffany – you and I are very similar! After school drop off for my older children, my youngest is pretty good at entertaining himself here and there so I can sneak in some precious reading time. So funny because my husband thinks Netflix is our bonding time in the evenings together yet I have no interest in TV. The whole time, I’m thinking of my books. 🤣
