Lindsay’s Author Series Event with Joanna Goodman

LINDSAY’S AUTHOR SERIES EVENT WITH JOANNA GOODMAN!

When my lovely friend Cathy invited me to attend a local Author Series event where Joanna Goodman would be reading, I jumped at the chance!  It was such an exciting opportunity for me to be able to meet the author of one of my most favourite and memorable books this year!

I read The Home for Unwanted Girls with The Traveling Friends GR group in August and it was a novel that everyone in our discussion truly loved and connected with.   Brenda and I read Joanna Goodman’s prior novel, The Finishing School last week and enjoyed discussing the deep layers within the pages of that one very much.

At the event last night, Joanna read an excerpt from The Home for Unwanted Girls.   Joanna’s voice truly had the crowd in a trance while reading Elodie’s encounter with the doctors in her orphanage.   Her reading brought me right back into the emotion and heart wrenching devastation of that scene.   Joanna took the time to answer many questions from the crowd and provided some exciting details that I am thrilled to share with you today.   Joanna explained that she is currently working on a new novel that expands on the topics and stories examined in The Home for Unwanted Girls.   It will not be a sequel, per se, but it will be a continuation of where that novel ended.   Joanna feels she has so much more to tell about that largely unknown historic period.   I know I speak for many of her readers when I say that I am SUPER EXCITED about getting my hands on a copy of that novel when it comes out!  (Don’t get too excited yet – she said it’s a couple years away).

Joanna was such a fun person to meet!  I was lucky enough to get a few minutes with her to chat and get a quick pic.

If you enjoy historical fiction and you haven’t read The Home for Unwanted Girls, I HIGHLY recommend getting your hands on a copy of that ASAP!   It’s a beautifully written and unforgettable story.
