Random Book Musings: Do you like to participate in a Secret Santa Holiday Book Swap or any other special holiday book swaps? #travelingsistersread #BookBloggers

img_6793Hi everyone! Hope you all are having a great Friday!

I always have these random bookish questions that I’m curious about so I ask our Traveling Sisters a weekly (sometimes more) book related question. We thought it would be fun and interesting to take some of those questions to our blog and see what you all think or do. I hope that you will also join in on the discussion with us.

Norma’s random book question:

Do you like to participate in a Secret Santa Holiday Book Swap or any other special holiday book swaps?

Just a little more info provided regarding a book swap.  You fill out a form that allows your swap partner to get to know you a little better. With questions such as: What three books are on your wishlist?  Will you accept books not on your wishlist? Favourite treats? Interests? Favourite bookish items? Favourite colour?

I love book swaps and I have participated in two this holiday season. One on Instagram and another with the BookSharks on Facebook. I love sending out bookish surprises.
The featured photo above is my fabulous Secret Santa package that I received from Laurie @booksandchinooks.  I was absolutely thrilled to have received The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson and kind of did a little squeal when I saw it.  It is a book that is high on my TBR list and hopefully, we will have some interest in our Traveling Friends group so that I can read it in the new year!  I also received some really nice cozy socks, a Canada mug, bookmark and an absolutely adorable mug Christmas ornament.  Thank you so much, Laurie, for the thoughtful package….I absolutely love everything!!

Norma your book goodies look and sound so wonderful!   I love it!  I haven’t done one before but I love the idea and think it would be so much fun to do.

  1. Hey sisters happy Friday.. It is Saturday in my part of the globe. I am not very fond of swaps secret or otherwise… Some of my own friends don’t know what I like. And we don’t have this custom in our country as most of us like Christmas but we don’t celebrate it.. Maybe if I had been around you all, I might have liked it..

    1. I was reading about the festival of St. Lucia in Sweden and have friends in SE Asia who celebrate other types of festivals/birthdays this time of year. Even our Christmas is based on pagan celebrations of the Romans and Celts. My question is – is there any type of festival for you this time of year e.g. festival of lights….

      1. My festival of lights which is Diwali was in November. Our festivals don’t follow the English calendar, it follows the Hindu calendar and the position of planets at a particular time. So each year the dates for the festivals change but on the whole it gets done between August to November. But we have so many cultures and religions that every month we have a holiday for some festival… We are a land of festivals…
But since we have a lot of Christians here, and I live close to the church, I get to see the celebration and midnight mass but all my friends have gone abroad so I don’t get invited to their homes.

  2. I’m not a fan. I’ve done this twice before with people I thought had similar reading styles as me or, at least, knew what I liked. Sadly, I ended up with books that weren’t even close to my tastes and that’s really hard to do considering the diversity of my reading preferences.

    1. Oh that’s too bad Mackey. I’ve never done it so I have no idea what to expect. Hope you’re reading something wonderful!!! Happy holidays! ❤️💚🎄

  3. I wouldn’t mind getting the other goodies but would prefer not to receive books unless I specifically asked for them because everybody’s reading taste is different and how would the person know whether or not I’d already read a certain book unless they were following me on Goodreads which is highly unlikely.

    1. Hi Carol, the holiday swaps that I participated in we put in a wish list of books that we wanted to receive and then our swap partner picked one of the books that I requested. So I didn’t end up with any books that I’d prefer not to read. Also, we could put a note in saying that we didn’t want any other books besides the ones requested. I think we all have that fear that we wouldn’t get something that we would enjoy to read. It is so true that all of our tastes are different.
