B’s Thoughts on Valentina by S.E. Lynes

ValentinaValentina by S.E. Lynes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Valentina starts off slow and then the tension builds as Lynes tells the story of how Shona’s fairytale life begins to unravel.

I really like psychological thrillers as I like to be drawn into the reality of the characters and their perceptions. Lynes has done a superb job with providing us with the drama, horror, and the mystery of the motives and intentions of the characters involved.

Lynes has done that for me in Valentina as she has included all the elements of what I expect in a good psychological thriller.

Brenda’s Thoughts on Burial Rites by Hannah Kent

Burial RitesBurial Rites by Hannah Kent

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Date read: November 23 – 26, 2016

Burial Rites is beautiful and moving. I like how the story was told from the changing points of view of everyone involved and how I came to understand the way Agnes’s relationships changed. I like how I learned about what lead up to her conviction. I also liked how I learned about the harsh conditions of Iceland and what it must have been like for them.

I love how I felt the sadness, sorrow and kindness as the story of Agnes was told.

Norma’s Review of Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Dark MatterDark Matter by Blake Crouch

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Date read:  November 24 – 26, 2016

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch was a very addicting read! It was mostly a science fiction novel with a little bit of romance and some suspense to make it a most enjoyable read. All three of those components is what I really liked about this novel. I was hooked from the very first chapter!

While the story started out really strong for me there were some portions of this novel that I just didn’t get and was a little hard to follow the mechanics of it all. I think that if there was less of the scientific background that was introduced to us it would have gotten a full 5* review from me. I don’t need everything broke down or analyzed for me, it is fiction so I just go with it! But it was filled with non-stop action and had a very dramatic storyline to make it quite the page-turner and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

The storyline was extremely interesting and I really liked the authors writing style as I felt that I was actually experiencing what was happening to the characters rather than just reading about it. I was definitely in the moment while reading this one. What is my position in the universe?

It was an intriguing, enjoyable, fast-paced, and quick read with a satisfying ending. Would recommend!!
